Abstract
Electrospun fibers were developed using different ratios of PVA/CD crosslinked with citric acid to enhance their water resistance properties. The diameter of the fibers increased as the amount of CD increased. PVA/CD fibers loaded with vitamin E (VE) were successfully prepared in 9-1PVA/CD and 7-3PVA/CD ratios, with VE loadings of 24% and 33% respectively. The release of VE from 7-3PVA/CD fibers was faster compared to that from 9-1PVA/CD fibers. Skin permeation studies demonstrated deeper penetration of FITC-incorporated VE in 9-1PVA/CD-CL fibers into the dermis. These promising results have potential for various applications involving enhanced water resistance and topical drug delivery.
