Abstract

This work concentrates on design, manufacturing and improving the impact strength as well as compression strength of helmet using glass fibres. The work makes use of glass fibre and foams of aluminium for design and experimentation purpose. Materials that absorb high energy is used to make the mould using which the helmet is fabricated. This can result in reduced weight and improved strength of the helmet with minimal wearing property. Hand layup method is used form making the helmets. The cross sectional area collapses and the compression stress of 2.7 KN/mm2. The breaking load of the test specimen was recorded as 8.2 KN and the ultimate tensile strength was 101 N/mm2. The impact strength was recorded as 120 J/mm2.
