Abstract

The technical possibilities of the Lytkarino Optical Glass Factory make it possible to manufacture optics from the stage of melting and annealing the blanks to the fabrication of finished astronomical mirrors. This paper describes the factory’s experience in investigating blanks and finished segments made from Astrositall for telescopes with compound segmented mirrors. An arrangement is shown for monitoring the figure of the spherical surface of the segments of a compound mirror, using a Fizeau lens. To implement the arrangement, a large-diameter Fizeau lens was fabricated and a special test stand was developed and fabricated that makes it possible to monitor both the spherical surface of the lens itself and a spherical element of the compound mirror.
