Abstract

Equilibrative nucleoside transporter 1 (ENT1) is an ethanol-sensitive adenosine transporter and regulates adenosine levels. Mice lacking ENT1 displayed elevated ethanol drinking with decreased ethanol sensitivity. Previously, we demonstrated that ENT1 deficiency dampens astrocyte function, which decreases adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) function in the dorsomedial striatal (DMS) and increases ethanol-seeking goal-directed behavior.
