Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a grid spacer with mixing vane (MV) on air-water two-phase annular flow in simplified center subchannel, which is seen in fuel rod bundle of a boiling water nuclear reactor (BWR). Two types of spacer, which were grid spacer with and without MV, were installed to the circular pipe of 16 mm in diameter, and deposition rate of liquid droplets in gas core of the annular flow on the channel wall was measured with double liquid film extraction method. From the deposition rate data, it was seen that deposition mass transfer coefficient was much higher for the spacer with MV than the spacer without MV.
