Abstract

The clinical use of F-18 fluoro-2-deoxyglocuse (F-18 FDG) PET scanning is rapidly growing, particularly in the field of oncology. The recognition of normal physiological variants and benign false-positive F-18 FDG PET scan findings are crucial for accurate diagnosis, and hence the maintenance, of clinicians' confidence. Traumatic bone injury is a recognized cause of false-positive results, and we now report that soft tissue injury can also cause false-positive results on F-18 FDG PET images and hence should be added to the list of benign causes of false-positive studies.
