Abstract

In this study, the effectiveness of the predictive control method using a short-term prediction method based on chaos theory is investigated experimentally. The system to be controlled is a rigid pendulum system forced by sinusoidal displacement in horizontal direction at the supported point. The time series of the swing angle is the target of prediction and the control inputs are calculated by using the several swing angles near future obtained by the prediction method. The control results of experiments show the effectiveness to some extent but they are not enough. The parameters used in prediction need to be set to the worse values than those obtained by the time series analyses, because the computation time of the predicted swing angles and the predictive control inputs has to be shorten less than the optimal sampling period.
