Abstract

It is said that setting the building on a foundation of spherical bearing can approximate perfect isolation. However, it is difficult to build such a building, and this technique has not been realized due to problems involving structure movement caused by lesser forces. In this study, the horizontal load was applied to the seismic bearing mounted together with steel ball and rubber ball and the factional behaviors of a seismic bearing have been experimentally investigated. Furthermore, the dynamic responses of the seismic isolator to impact force have been investigated by applying an impact force to the table upon which the bearing was mounted. From the experimental results, we have found that the existence of rubber ball decreased the horizontal displacement and more than half of acceleration.
