Abstract

This book is directed to the practicing ophthalmologist. The recent innovations in the surgical subspecialties of ophthalmology are presented. The text emphasizes the majority of new advances in each surgical subspecialty and these are critically evaluated. With each new tool or new technique new complications arise. These complications are discussed frankly along with their management. The criteria for patient selection for these new techniques are also discussed. The book wisely devotes the majority of its 325 pages to the pitfalls and complications of the new techniques in ocular surgery and, in general, avoids descriptions of surgical details. The 13 chapters discuss corneal surgery and prosthokeratoplasty, lens surgery, including phacoemulsification and lens implantation, retinal and vitreous surgery using infusion-aspiration cutting devices, oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery, and extraocular muscle surgery.
