Abstract
The extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) is a widely studied phenomenon at terahertz and optical frequencies. Artificial materials designed with this property provide a perfect transmission of power within a narrow bandwidth and reject the incident power at the rest of frequencies. This paper proposes the use of the EOT phenomenon of a metallic hole array (MHA) to design selective surfaces in the X-band. These surfaces may be used to improve the radiation characteristics of a simple antenna. To do so, the phase and amplitude of the transmitted signal in the unit cell must be controlled. This paper analyzes the unit cell for different periods and hole sizes to illustrate the way the phase and amplitude can be adjusted. These results are used to design a complete MHA working as a planar lens for near-field focusing.
