Abstract

Based on the rigorous coupled-waveanalysis algorithm, we have systematically analysed the effect ofthe geometrical parameters of a dielectric film coated metallicgrating with subwavelength slits on extraordinary opticaltransmission for s-polarization illumination. Results show thatthe dielectric film which sustains a waveguide electromagneticmode on the top of the metallic lamellar grating can stronglyenhance the transmittance, the positions of the transmission peaksare mainly determined by the period of the metallic grating, thethickness and refractive index of the dielectric film. Thisstructure shows potential applications in excellent polarizers orpolarization-isotropic devices at infrared spectral range byappropriately choosing the geometrical parameters.
