Abstract

A yolk sac tumor, a rare but highly malignant entity, is the most common gonadal tumor of infants and children. It typically arises in the testicles of young men or in the ovaries of female children, adolescents, or young adults. It is also known as endodermal sinus tumor and Teilum tumor [1 , 2]. Previously, these tumors were almost uniformly fatal within 2 years of diagnosis [3]. An extragonadal location is distinctly unusual, and, when it occurs, location in the abdomen is very rare [1-3]. We report a case of an extragonadal yolk sac tumor that arose as an abdominal mass in the mesentery of the small bowel.
