Abstract

The volatile oil in Tussilago farfara L was extracted with simultaneous distillation, analyzed by GC/MS, and tested as a cigarette flavoring. The results showed that: 1) 70 volatile constituents were identified in the oil, the major constituents were β-bisabolene, n-hexadecanoic acid, (-)-spathulenol,7,10,13-hexadecatrienal, δ-cadinene, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid,9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid, β-cubebene and β-ionone; 2) the volatile oil could improve and modify aroma, enhance green note, and reduce irritation of cigarette smoke. The volatile oil could be applied as a cigarette flavoring.
