Abstract

ABSTRACT In this investigation, an aqueous two-phase system method (ATPS) utilised to the assessment of the formic acid extraction. ATPS includes the polymer PEG (4000 and 8000) and different phosphate salts. Formic acid extraction modelled by an artificial neural network based on PEG molecular weight, salt concentration, temperature, and pH. The most effective operating condition obtained by MW = 4000, Salt concentration 25%, temperature 298 K, and pH = 4. The Maximum extraction efficiency of formic acid was 89% at optimised conditions. A comparison of experimental data and the artificial neural network (ANN) shows the high capability of ANN to predict the extraction efficiency.
