Abstract

A mathematical model is suggested for liquid–liquid extraction on a sieve tray of a gravity columnar extractor. The description of momentum and mass transfer in the two-phase flow is based on the multiple-velocity-continuum model taking into account the specific features of phase interaction on the tray. Calculated data are compared with available experimental data for extraction in the diethyl ether–acetic acid–water system on sieve trays 0.22 m in diameter. Modeling results are presented for an industrial sieve-tray extractor.
