Abstract
Organophosphine compounds form strong complexes with Au I I I . This behaviour has been studied as a function of different variables, such as hydrobromic acid concentration, reagent concentration and effect of temperature with Cyanex-921, 923, 925 and 471X in toluene from bromide media. The extraction is observed with Cyanex-921, 923 and 925 in toluene from 4.0 to 6.0 M HBr media, while with Cyanex-471X in toluene from 1.0 to 4.0 M HBr media. The extraction reaction with Cyanex 471X is endothermic, while that with Cyanex-921, 923 and 925 is exothermic in nature. The extraction phenomenon seems to depend upon the donor atom present in the extractant. The methods developed are successfully applied for analysis of gold in real samples.
