Abstract
The paper presents beryllium extraction process being operated at the beryllium pilot plant of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. The metal is produced by magnesium reduction of anhydrous beryllium fluoride. Reduction process yields beryllium metal in the form of pebbles. Metal pebbles are refined by vacuum induction melting. Vacuum cast ingot is further processed through powder metallurgy to produce vacuum hot pressed beryllium blocks. These blocks are precision machined, in the Beryllium Machining Facility, to various components for space applications.
