Abstract

Most current information dealing with extracranial cerebrovascular disease has been published either as a symposium, with various contributions differing in quality, or as a cooperative study which often does not sustain a high degree of reader interest. Wylie and Ehrenfeld have produced a well-organized and comprehensive monograph based upon a critical analysis of 12 years' personal experience with more than 800 operations for extracranial cerebrovascular disease. They have artfully included a review of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and neurology accompanying altered cerebral blood flow. Everyone interested in cerebrovascular disease should read this short monograph. Although strong advocates of anticoagulant therapy may disagree with some aspects of the book, they will agree that it is filled with useful information. The sections on pathology, neurological syndromes, and surgical results are accompanied by appropriate patient group analyses.
