Abstract
The nonneural elements of the peripheral nerve trunk are three different kinds of connective tissue sheath; epineurium, perineurium, and endoneurium. They play a role in protecting the nerve against stretching and compressive forces. The perineurium also forms a permeability barrier. The aim of this study is to observe the three-dimensional architecture of the connective tissue of rat facial nerve, and investigate the components.
