Abstract
A patient presenting with colicky pains was found to have a mass occupying the lower pole of the kidney. Following I.V.P. and aortography, the gallbladder was well opacified. The glomerular function was slightly depressed, but considerable tubular malfunction was present. It was subsequently discovered that the patient had multiple myeloma. Extra-renal excretion of contrast medium via the liver and small bowel following the intravenous injection of urinary contrast media is well known. The purpose of this paper is to discuss gallbladder opacification after intra-venous urography and aortography and to review some of the literature.
