Abstract

We have calculated the extinction efficiencies of randomly oriented infinite graphite cylinders, including hollow cylinders, using the rigorous Kerker-Matijevic formulae. The peak in the mid-ultraviolet extinction varies in wavelength with particle radius and cavity size in a way that makes such particles of limited interest as models of interstellar grains.
