External ventricular drainage is a measure employed in a umber of clinical settings including: acute hydrocephalus, subrachnoid hemorrhage, and intraventricular hemorrhage. External entricular drain (EVD) placement is usually performed free hand t the bedside or in the operating room using surface landmarks o guide placement. Routine complications with EVD placement nclude hemorrhage, infection, non-function, and malposition [1]. hile hemorrhage and infection related to EVD placement have een studied extensively in the past, more recently studies have ocused on the accuracy of EVD placement [1–3]. Here we present case report of EVD placement in the tectum at an outside instituion resulting in upgaze palsy, a complication not previously noted t our institution or found in the literature.
