Abstract

I have expressed certain personal opinions regarding the choice of external operation on the frontal sinus. These are based on the anatomic characteristics of the sinus and the pathologic nature of the disease. I have outlined the postoperative care which I have found useful. In general, it can be said that well directed external operations on the frontal sinuses produce excellent clinical results and that the fear of disfiguring deformity of the forehead is of minor consideration. Excellent results have come about because surgeons are familiar with the technical improvements, including methods for anesthesia suggested by various observers, understand thoroughly the pathologic characteristics of diseased conditions common to the frontal sinus, and know the indications for the use of an external operation.
