Abstract

AbstractFluorescence (ϕf) and triplet quantum yields (ϕt) of anthracene, 9‐methylanthracene, 9,10‐dimethylanthracene, fluorene, indeno[2,1‐a‐]indene, and N‐methyldiphenylamine were measured by means of fluorimetry, conventional flash photolysis, and laser flash photolysis. Ethanol and aqueous micellar solutions of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) and of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) were used as solvents. ϕf values decreased while ϕt values increased when the solvent was changed from CTAC to CTAB. It could be shown that ϕf + ϕt is constant under all conditions investigated. Therefore, the results have to be explained by an external heavy atom effect of bromide counterions.
