Abstract

A survey of metabolic balance studies of calcium and phosphorus by various investigators revealed increased fecal losses of calcium in all, and of phosphorus in most, patients with vitamin D-resistant rickets. The urinary excretion of calcium in all patients was lower than it was in normal children, and that of phosphorus was lower or normal. After treatment with large doses of vitamin D or A. T. 10, the fecal excretion of calcium and phosphorus decreased, probably because of increased absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
