Abstract

External bremsstrahlung (EB) spectra of Al, Cu, Sn and Pb targets excited by 32P beta particles ( E β max = 1.706 MeV) have been studied. In order to exclude the errors in the source strength measurement and avoid the inherent uncertainty of the normalisation procedure used by earlier authors, the experimental and theoretical results were compared using the number of photons of energy k per m 0 c 2 per unit photon yield. The experimental results show better agreement with the Tseng and Pratt theory than with the Elwert corrected Bethe-Heitler theory, particularly for medium and high- Z elements.
