Abstract

The study determined the relationship between selected profile of the respondents and the coping mechanisms utilized among young mothers. Seventeen young mothers were selected through purposive sampling. A pilot study was first done in the adjacent barangay of NHA, Kauswagan, which is Zone 1, Bayabas, with 10 respondents for reliability test of the research instrument Data gathered were analyzed and presented through the frequency counts, simple percentages and weighted mean. Findings are summarized as follows: majority of the respondents are 18-20 years old, high school graduates, with family monthly income of PhP 1,500 - P3,000, and has child’s father as support system. The respondents “rarely” utilize physical coping mechanisms; “sometimes” utilize emotional and mental, social, spiritual, and financial coping mechanisms, while child support system is “always” utilized.  Key Words – Coping mechanisms, young mothers, teenage pregnancy
