Abstract
For a rigid body of arbitrary shape in elastic waves, symmetry of the restoring forces and the positiveness of the damping matrix are shown. Identities relating to elastodynamic states are derived for infinite and half‐plane problems. In addition to the customary combinations of two diffraction states, mixed combinations of diffraction and radiation states are also considered.
