Abstract

Predictions of behaviour of polymer solutions in extensional flow obtained from a variety of available constitutive equations are discussed. An experimental method for measuring stresses in the extensional flow of polymer solutions is presented, and results are discussed. The data obtained are well correlated by a simple integral equation, and the need for more complicated ‘straingth’ theories is not supported.
