Abstract
The study aimed to identify the quality of the extensional serviceoffered by the agricultural extension system in the study area and determinethe correlation between some the independent variables studied and the degreeof extensional service offered by the agricultural extension system to potatocrop growers and to find out farmer's information sources and suggestion toimprove the quality. The study was conducted in Matrouh Governorate; systematic randomsample was selected from growers (145 respondents) .Data were collected byquestionnaire through personal interviews, Pearson simple correlation wasused .Percentages coefficient to data analysis .The most important results study were:- 58% of the respondents mentioned that the agricultural extension systemperformed extension services in a moderate and high standard terms of potatopractices at the study area.- 60.7% of the respondents had moderate and high level of their knowledge asa result of the extensional services demonstrated by the agricultural extensionsystem concerning the recommendations of potato practices.- 73.1% of the respondents have changed their practice to a low to moderatelevel, and 51% of the respondents mentioned that the agricultural extensionsystem provides them with extension services in the studied items for potatocrop cultivation in the study area in medium to high quality.- There was a constant significant correlation at 0.01 significance levelbetween these variables: age, standard of education, degree of participation inlocal organizations, degree of trend towards extension activities, degree oftrend towards agricultural innovations, level of reorganization the informationsources, and the standard of extension service quality rendered by theagricultural extension system to the respondents in the field of potato crop cultivation in the study area.-There was a constant significant correlation at 0.05 significant level betweenthe following variables: the cultivated area with potato crop and the standardof quality of the extensional services delivered by the agricultural extensionsystem to the respondents concerning growing potato at the study area.- There was no correlation between the tribal leadership and the level ofquality of the extension services presented to the respondents by theagricultural extension system on growing potato crop.- The respondents mentioned seven sources from which they obtain theirinformation mainly on the cultivation process of the potato crop, which wasthe source of the parents and neighbors by 88%.-The respondents also proposed six proposals from their point of view toimprove the quality of extension service provided by the agricultural extensionsystem in the field of potato crop cultivation in the study area.
