Abstract

The method of images is well-known in electrostatics and electromagnetic radiation problems, like currents on a metallic ground plane to replace the original problem. This paper extends the method of images to the case of a dipole antenna on a dielectric ground plane, like concrete, considering that from 1 GHz to 40 GHz is a low-loss dielectric material. The contribution of this work is the model that expresses the electric and magnetic fields through the method of imaging for a dipole on a dielectric ground plane, for vertical and horizontal polarization. These results can be applied to propagation models to the mobile communications like 5G and 6G technologies. The wave impedance of the electromagnetic wave obtained has been discussed. This work allows replacing the treatment of Sommerferld's of a dipole antenna on a dielectric ground with losses with the extension of the image method.
