Abstract

The spectrum of palladium was photographed in the wavelength region 450–2300 Å using a 6.650m normal incidence vacuum spectrograph. The light source was a sliding spark. All hitherto missing levels in the 4d 8, 4d 75s and 4d 75p configurations of Pd III have been determined and 326 lines which were not recorded in a previous analysis have been added to the classified lines in this spectrum. Out of these, 119 lines belong to the 4d 8-4d 75p transition-array and 207 lines to the 4d 75s-4d 75p system. Twenty-four levels of the 4d 75p configuration (110 levels) had to be given a new LS-designation. Least-squares fit (LSF) calculations have been performed for the levels of all three configurations. The LSF parameter values are compared with Hartree-Fock predictions. The values of the known levels of the 4d 8 configuration have been slightly modified, due to a better wavelength calibration in the short wavelength region.
