Abstract

The rise of the Network Society has spawned new forms of existence in society in China that challenge traditional thinking. As a foundation for maintaining the stability of traditional social structure, social stratification has been reintroduced into the virtual environment, the virtual environment which requires a new perspective with unique division criteria and various new forms. This kind of practice is not completely separate from traditional stratification forms, which implies the reconstruction between “the real and the virtual”. The basis of identity status in the real world does not disappear when one changes place, although it does in the Network Society. Identity status also plays an important role in the stratification of the Network Society online. Social structure in the real environment has also been brought into the Network Society causing “structural reproduction”.
