Abstract
A semiclassical method leading to a formula for heavy-ion DWBA transfer reaction amplitudes, valid for Q-value-matched reactions, is extended to include inelastic excitations. In addition, the range of validity of the method is extended to Q-value-mismatched reactions by an appropriate choice of d, the distance of closest approach. As an illustration, the variation of cross section with Q value has been calculated for the reactions 58Ni(40Ar, 41K)57Co and 58Ni(40Ar,40Ar)58Ni(2+) at 280 MeV laboratory energy using the extended semiclassical method and compared with quantum mechanical calculations. The agreement is good.
