Abstract

Two spectra of scandium were recorded: the infrared region between 2 950 and 15 400 cm −1 using a Fourier transform spectrometer, the near ultraviolet region between 33 800 and 50 000 cm −1 with the Meudon normal-incidence 10.7 m vacuum spectrograph. In addition Zeeman spectrograms were made in the visible region between 11 000 and 35 000 cm −1 by Fred and Camus, with the Paschen-Runge spectrograph at Argonne National Laboratory. A list of 1 880 lines was established and 69 even and 39 odd levels were found. The connection between a group of quadruplets (found in the early analysis by Russell and Meggers) and the main term system has been revised.
