Abstract

The concept of Generalized Quantifier (GQ) was introduced to query languages in [9] and, independently, in [10]. The present paper shows how GQs can be used in Conceptual Modeling, specifically how they can be incorporated into Entity-Relationship diagrams ([4]) to increase their expressive power. A language to express E-R models is defined and given formal semantics. It is them shown how GQs can be easily added to this framework. Several GQs that have natural, intuitive interpretations in the context of conceptual modeling are defined; their use is shown through examples.KeywordsConceptual ModelingDescription LogicQuery LanguageExpressive PowerFormal SemanticThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
