Abstract

Closed-loop neuromodulation has great potentials in epilepsy and other neurological diseases. Given the complexity and particularity of epilepsy, the control strategy should be robust enough to those uncertainties and disturbances. To reduce the dependence on model information and ensure the closed-loop regulation of epilepsy, an extended state observer-based sliding mode control scheme is designed to suppress epileptic spikes produced by the Jansens neural mass model. Simulation results confirm the extended state observer-based sliding mode control in suppressing epilepsy.
