Abstract

AbstractIndustrial processes are typically regulated by PID controllers. However, for dead time dominating systems, the PID controller is not very applicable. Several modifications of a PID controller have been presented among years for improving control performance for delay dominant processes. This paper contributes the same approach by presenting an extension of a predictive PI controller having a simple formulation of the controller and a reasonably good match to a Smith predictor for given industrial process models. The presented extensions cover industrial processes with multiple time constants, integrator or both of them combined.
