Abstract
AbstractApproximate critical temperatures of anisotropic ferromagnetic Ising models are calculated through a recently proposed extended variational method in statistical mechanics. Using a linear chain Ising Hamiltonian in an effective field as trial Hamiltonian, quite good results are obtained.
