Abstract

This paper deals with a specific technique of substrate feeding in methanol fermentation of the yeastCandida boidinii. The control loop is based on the measurement of methanol in the exhaust air. Experimental results from extended batch fermentations at different methanol concentrations are represented. A mathematical model including the inhibitory characteristics of methanol is compared with the experimental results. The effect of the inhibitory influence of methanol on the growth in continuous culture is discussed by means of a mathematical simulation.
