Abstract

Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF) in experimental retinal neovascularization (RNV) of mice. Methods RNV model was established in C57BL/6J mice exposed to oxygen of high concentration. The eyeballs were taken out at the P12,P14,P17 and P21.The expression of VEGF and PEDF in RNV was detected by immunohistochcmical method. Results VEGF and PEDF were both significantly expressed in RNV of OIR.The positive immune reaction of VEGF was most apparent during P14-P17and the expression reached the highest at P17 and then declined remarkably. The expression of PEDF reached the highest at P12 and then declined until P17 remarkably certain time correlation existed between the dynamic expressions of VEGF and PEDF and the development of RNV.Conclusions VEGF and PEDF are significantly expressed in experimental RNV.The imbalance between their expressions may play an important role in the occurrence and development of RNV. Key words: Vascular endothelial growth factor; Pigment epithelium derived factor;  Retinal neovascularization;  Mice
