Abstract

Objective To study the exprssion of vascular endothelial growth factor in human glioma, and explore the relationship between VEGF and neoplasm invasion?malignant degree and prognosis.Methods A Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the level of VEGF in 52 cases of glioma,4 cases of pituitary adenoma,5 cases of normal brain tissue. Their relation to clinic data was also comparatively analyzed. Results All gliomas expressed VEGF protein,but no VEGF positive staining cell was found in normal brian tissue.The level of VEGF protein was heighten accompany with the malignant degree of glioma. The level of VEGF in tumor tissue of patiens whose survival period were less than 3 years was significantly higher than counterparts ( P 0.01). Conclusion The expression of VEGF was associated with the malignant degree and invasion of glioma, and it maybe a objective indicator for judging the prognosis of glioma.
