Abstract

The aim of the present work was to study the distribution of cells expressing Musashi-1 (Msi-1) protein, which is regarded as a marker for neural stem cells, in the rat telencephalon. These cells were found to be concentrated in the subventricular proliferative zone and diffusely distributed in the striatum and hippocampus. In addition, intense reactions for Msi-1 were given by neurons in the habenular nuclei. These results are not in full agreement with existing views on the locations of neural stem cells in the brain.
