Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of serum progranulin (PGRN) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and evaluate its clinical value. Methods Eighty-six patients with COPD were enrolled from the department of respiratory medicine, affiliated hospital of xuzhou medical university, including 51 patients with acute exacerbation as AECOPD group, 35 patients with stabilization as SCOPD group, and 30 cases healthy person as control group at the same time.Collect the serum in 24 hours, then using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays measuring serum concentrations of PGRN and collect clinical material of COPD patients and analysis the correlation with PGRN. Results The serum PGRN concentration of COPD group is significantly lower than healthy person (F=149.419, P<0.05), there is a significant difference between each group.Serum PGRN concentration of the AECOPD group is significant higher than SCOPD group. In the AECOPD group, the respiratory failure serum PGRN concentration is significantly higher than the non-respiratory failure (t=-2.63, P=0.012). Serum PGRN concentration have a significantly positive correlation with leukocyte count, Neutrophil count, CAT scores, acute exacerbation C-reactive protein and whether complicate respiratory failure and have a significant negative correlation with forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), forced expiratory volume in the first second of expected value percentage (FEV1pred%)and acute exacerbation eosinophil count. Conclusions PGRN play a key anti-inflammatory effect in AECOPD.There is a correlation between serum progranulin concentration and COPD assessment index. It is a potential indicator of the severity of COPD. Key words: Progranulin; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Inflammatory mechanism
