Abstract
Fetal membranes express elevated levels of COX-2 at the onset of labor. Selective COX-2 inhibitors are being considered for the management of preterm labor. Prostanoid receptors are linked to various second messengers and mediate vessel constriction or dilation. EP3 prostanoid receptor plays an important regulatory role in myometrial contractility. We evaluated the expression of prostaniod receptors in myometrium and cervix in response to COX-2 inhibition in a rabbit model of RU486-induced preterm delivery.
