Abstract

Objective To investigate the P2X3 receptors changes in rat periodontal ligament during experimental tooth movement(ETM), and find its possible effect during ETM. Methods 54male SD rats (200~250 g) were selected in this study. There were 7 experimental groups (35 rats)and 2 control groups [Group A: intact rat (5 rats); Group B: sham rat (14 rats)]. Biopsies of periodontal ligament in the left maxillary first molar region was obtained at different time points to carry out immunohistochemical study. Results Immunohistology was used to reveal the distribution of P2X3 receptors in periodontal ligament. Predominant up regulation of P2X3 receptors immunoactivity was found in periodontal ligament from 4h to 7d. No significant difference was found in immunoactivity of P2X3 receptors between the pressure and tensile sides at the same time. Conclusions P2X3 receptors have a rhythm change in rat periodontal ligament as a result of ETM.
