Abstract

MRGPRX2 is a G protein–coupled receptor that is predominantly expressed in human skin mast cells (MCs).1,2 It is activated by a wide spectrum of cationic ligands including host defense antimicrobial peptides, neuropeptides, Hymenoptera venom, neuromuscular-blocking drugs, and the fluoroquinolone family of antibiotics.3 Systemic mastocytosis (SM) is characterized by the abnormal accumulation of MCs in different organs of the body and may occur with or without cutaneous disease.4 Giavina-Bianchi et al5 recently reported a case of a patient with SM who developed 5 episodes of anaphylaxis in response to insect venom and ciprofloxacin used to treat urinary tract infection.
