Abstract

Objective To study the expression of metastasis associated-1 (MTA1 ) in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its relationship with invasion and metastasis of HCC. Methods By using the method of immohistochemical staining (SP) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), specimens from 42 cases of HCC, 10 cases of hepatic cirrhosis (HC) and 7 normal liver tissues (NL) were studied. The relationship between the MTA1 expression and HCC pathological features was evaluated. Results MTA1 positive cases in the HCC, HC and NL tissues was 26, 2 and O respectively, with the significant difference between HCC and HC as well as NL ( P < 0. 05 ). The expression of MTA1mRNA in HCC tissues was significantly higher than that in HC ( t= 2. 792, P < 0. 05 ). Overexpression of metastasis associated-1 in the HCC was related to the invasion of tumor envelop ( P < 0. 05 ), Edmondson grades (P <0.05) and tumor metastasis (P <0.01). Conclusion MTA1 may play an important role in invasion and metastasis of HCC. Key words: Carcinoma, hepatocellular; Metastasis associated-1; Metastasis
