Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and matrix metalloproteinase - 2 (MMP - 2) in posterior segment of guinea pig eyes with form deprivation my-opia (FDM). Methods FDM were established in 2 - week - old guinea pigs whose right eyes were closed with translucent goggles for 9 weeks, the left eyes served as control group. Fifteen guinea pigs were ran-domly selected for retinoscopy and A - scan after 3,6,9 weeks. The expression of retina iNOS and sclera MMP -2 were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Results The myopia diopter and axial length in FDM eyes were significantly increased in comparison with the control eyes(P <0.05). The expression of iN-OS and MMP - 2 in FDM eyes were obviously upregulated compared with control eyes (P < 0. 05), Astrong correlation between the expression of iNOS and MMP -2 was detected too. Conclusions iNOS and MMP - 2 may be involved in the regulation of FDM, NO signaling pathway might affect sclera remode-ling by regulating MMP -2 activity. Key words: Form deprivation myopia; iNOS ; MMP - 2 ; Guinea pig
