Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The presence of HLA-G and HLA-E in human trophoblast is a modulator of immune rejection since it can alter the local cytokine secretion towards a physiological situation compatible with implantation, however there is still controversy regarding the role of these molecules on the maintenance of pregnancy. One of the main confusing variables explaining the discrepancies may be the method of curettage where chromosomally abnormal embryos can be confused by normal ones. We aimed to analyze the local expression of HLA-G and E in highly purified trophoblast cells from of spontaneous abortion in chromosomally normal and abnormal fetus.
